Getting Started: Your First Game of SC-TMG
Welcome to StarCraft: The Miniatures Game! This guide walks you through everything you need for your first game.
What You Need - The Two-Player Starter Box, or two faction-specific boxes - A 36x36 inch play area (small game) or 54x36 (standard) - The rulebook (included in the starter)
Step 1: Build Your Army Use a budget of 1,000 minerals (small) or 2,000 (standard). Pick a Faction Card, buy Tactical Cards with Vespene Gas (10% of minerals), fill your army slots with units, and choose upgrades.
You can use the Stimpacked list builder right here on this site to build your list digitally with full rules validation!
Step 2: Set Up the Battlefield Place terrain, choose a Mission Card, and set up Mission Markers. All units start in Reserves.
Step 3: Play! Each round has four phases: 1. Movement Phase - deploy units, move, disengage 2. Assault Phase - ranged attacks, charges 3. Combat Phase - close combat 4. Scoring Phase - check objectives
The game lasts 5-6 rounds depending on the mission. Players alternate activating one unit at a time within each phase.
Step 4: Win Score Victory Points by controlling Mission Markers and destroying enemy units. The player with the most VP at the end wins.
Key Tips for New Players - Do not deploy everything at once! The Supply Pool limits what you can field - Passing in the Movement Phase gives you first strike in Assault - Watch your anti-air coverage - Stimpack is powerful but costs HP - Read your unit cards carefully, especially the back (upgrades)
